Sentient Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Sentient ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our desktop application ("Sentient"). By using Sentient, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.


Transparency Note: Sentient is open-source software. Our codebase is publicly available for review at our GitHub repository, allowing full transparency into how we handle your data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve the functionality of Sentient:

a. Authentication Information

  • Email and Password: Collected if you sign up using email
  • Google Account Information: If you sign up using Google, we collect basic account information (e.g., name and email address)

Authentication is managed through Auth0.

b. Personality Test Information

We collect your responses to the MBTI 16 Personality Test to personalize your AI companion experience.

c. LinkedIn, Reddit and X Information

If you provide your LinkedIn, Reddit or X Profile URL, we scrape your publicly available profile information to enhance your user knowledge graph.

d. Local Knowledge Graph

A knowledge graph of your data is created and stored locally on your device using Neo4J.

e. Chat History

Your chat interactions, including any data you share during conversations, are stored locally on your device.

f. Google Suite Permissions

When authenticating Google services, we require the following permissions:

  1. View your email messages and settings (Gmail)
  2. Send email on your behalf (Gmail)
  3. Manage drafts and send emails (Gmail)
  4. Read, compose and send emails from your Gmail account (Gmail)
  5. See, edit, create and delete Google Drive files
  6. See, edit, create and delete Google Slides presentations
  7. See, edit, create and delete Google Docs documents
  8. See, edit, create and delete Google Sheets spreadsheets
  9. See, edit, share and delete Google Calendars

Authentication tokens are stored locally and can be deleted to revoke access.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Authenticate your access to the application
  • Create a knowledge graph to understand and enhance interactions
  • Enable the AI companion powered by the LLama3.2 3B model
  • Perform actions through Sentient agents via API endpoints provided by the respective third parties
  • Perform anonymized internet searches for any additional context needed to respond to queries
  • We explicitly do not use data from your Google services (or any other source) to develop, improve, or train generalized AI/ML models.

3. Data Storage and Security

All data stored locally on your device:

  • Chat history
  • Personality test responses
  • LinkedIn/Reddit/X information
  • Knowledge graph

Data is stored in an encrypted database using AES-256 encryption.

We do not transmit or store any personal data on external servers except:

  • Username
  • Email address
  • Login history (Timestamps)

This information is secured via Auth0's ISO 27001-certified infrastructure.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not share, sell, or transfer Google user data to any third parties except:

  • Google APIs: When performing authorized actions (e.g., sending email)
  • Auth0: For authentication purposes only. Uses Google OAuth

Data is stored in an encrypted database using AES-256 encryption.

We do not transmit or store any personal data on external servers except:

  • Username
  • Email address
  • Login history (Timestamps)

This information is secured via Auth0's ISO 27001-certified infrastructure.

5. Internet Connectivity

Sentient requires continuous internet connection for:

  • Authentication through Auth0
  • Accessing LinkedIn/Reddit/X profile data
  • Google Suite agents (Gmail, GCalendar, GDocs, etc.)
  • Internet Search functionality

6. Third-Party Services

  • Auth0 - Authentication
  • Neo4J - Local knowledge graph storage
  • Ollama - Meta's Llama3.2 3B model for inference

These services operate under their own privacy policies.

7. Your Rights

  • Access and Portability: View local data anytime
  • Deletion: Clear local storage to remove:
    • Chat history
    • Personality test results
    • Knowledge graph
  • Revocation: Delete the locally stored Google authentication token at any time to revoke Sentient's access to Google services

7. Children's Privacy

Sentient is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

8. Policy Updates

Updates will be reflected in-app. Continued use implies agreement with revised terms.
